Greetings from Salt Lake City, Utah. Having started working in the real estate business 17 years ago, I have seen a massive shift in the way that the real estate business is worked. Technology has transformed my business in ways that I could never have dreamed of, and here I am now, grabbing on to the blogging world. I love to share what I have learned so this fits me perfectly.
Please, stroll with me down memory lane for just a moment. In 1991, when I entered the wild business of selling real estate, there was no internet, and the only source we as agents had to obtain information about the listing inventory was a Multiple Listing Service book. This was a book that was about the size of the white pages, and was published once every two weeks. I think there were four or five real estate agents in our marketplace carrying around a bag that held a phone receiver in it. The rest had their office number and their home number on their business card. I remember being at a client's home in around 1993 and he showed me the craziest thing I had ever seen. It was something he said would change everything in computers. It was a little thing he was trying out called "Windows". Well, you know the rest of the story, at least so far.
So why am I bringing up all of this nonsense? Well, partly because I can, and partly because it is an illustration of what an amazing ride my real estate career has been. I absolutely love this business because nothing ever stays the same. Lately, I hear many folks complaining about the real estate business, the economy, and the rising price of gasoline. What people are forgetting is that we enjoy an amazing life here in the United States. Yes, the real estate business has had some bumps in the road over the past year, but the economy as a whole is strong. When real estate prices decline, there are issues associated with it, but there are great benefits for people who are moving to bigger homes, and for first time buyers. The truth is that with all things considered, I have never seen a better time to buy real estate in my entire career. Interest rates are still very low, the economy is strong, and there is an abundant supply of homes for sale, giving buyers great choices to pick from.
It is important to note, as I easily can from a highly experienced point of view, that as I said before, nothing ever stays the same. If you have ever said to yourself "if I had only bought when...........". I have something to tell you. Now is that time of "when".
